One last thought...

Today was a good day for the world.

There is so much going on, it is hard to stop..

Okay, 4 days starts now.

4 days, no posts...

I'm off venturing into some American territory that is completely new to me. Thanks to everyone who called and e-mailed today. I wont have my computer for a few days. I will have my camera, however, to capture some pretty scenes.

Don't worry, it is a Blue State.

Small question....

Okay, here it is. If you were crazy enough to book yourself a 6am flight, for which you had to wake up at 3:45, what time would go you go to sleep? Would you go to sleep at all?

UPDATE: I'm going to bed at 9pm.

I feel like it is time to start eating cake or something....

Rummy gets thrown under the bus

Experienced...

Apparently, the Intrepid liked a few bottoms in her day before getting stuck in the mud on Monday. In September 1969, the Intrepid on her way from Philadelphia to Quonset Point hit the bottom heading up the Narragansett. Despite fanfare and a band waiting for her ashore, the grand dame was was stuck for several hours until the tide came in.

I'd laugh, but I've tagged a few bottoms in the Narragansett myself. I hope it was as good for her as it was for me.

Three cheers! (from the "you go girl" file)

Hip (Gay marriage ban loses in Arizona where human dignity wins)

Hip (Britney is back on her feet giving FedEx the boot.)

HOORAY! (Gay Hate Icon RICK SANTORUM Loses his Senate seat!)

And one last cheer for the Democrats...

Live blogging the election

  • 10:02. Santorum is out! Thanked god (sure he did). Wished his successor well. Nice job. I think god you're done. Priority #1, woo hoo!
  • Democrats swept Indiana in the house.
  • Johnson in CT lost.. Wow. Rahm Emmanuel seems glowing. Dems are winning the house BIG TIME.
  • House Democrats will work based on the big report. Wait. 5 "R" principals. Why is there no "w" for withdrawl?
  • Republicans are losing on "the war" and "bush".. well, that is good. if they were winning, it would be due to "gay marriage."
  • Looking at propositions, South Carolina is banning gay marriage (no surprise). Tennessee and Virginia did too.
  • SHIT! the gays lost WI.
  • The conservative agenda is winning the anti-gay ballot initiatives - this is predictable, but not good. (Perhaps the HRC, Lamda and such should pull back a bit unless we want more constitutional amendments on ballots).
  • Webb and Allen are going down to the wire... that's good! Oh Macaca, you did make a difference.
  • God, Tennessee is backwards... Corker must have whored out his daughters.
  • Frist: Corker is "home grown" (i.e. good ol' boy); Harold Ford is a career politician.
  • Good for you Chris for going after Frist on the Corker white woman ad.
  • Frist does not defend the ad!
  • Yay! They repeated Santorum is out.

Okay... I'm going to quit... it's a good night. I doubt, in the end, we'll win the Senate. I hope that I'm proved dawn. Virginia might warrant a recount.

Predictions won, predictions might be a bit off....

I hinted at my Senate campagn predictions over at Alarming News agreeing with Karol's take somewhat. CTBob, however, has me thinking I'm wrong that Joe Lieberman will beat Lamont. (He's okay in my book as a very good J30 sailor). That's great, especially considering that this particular campaign is considered a national referrendum on the war in Iraq. Connecticut, according to KOS, is having a record turnout.

The biggest race for me in Pennsylvania. Rick Santorum needs to go. In his statements leading up to the landmark Supreme Court decision of Lawrence v. Texas (striking down a texas so called "homosexual conduct" law denying homosexuals the right to have sex in their home), Santorum said:

"If the Supreme Court says that you have the right to consensual [gay] sex within your home, then you have the right to bigamy, you have the right to polygamy, you have the right to incest, you have the right to adultery. You have the right to anything."

Thank god, after tomorrow, this man will no longer grace the US congress.

On a Tripp...

It doesn’t feel like an election day Tuesday, it feels like Thursday. In 48 hours I’ll be high in the air with no politics in mind headed to Traverse City. With all that is happening in the world, the biggest thing in my mind this week is my trip to visit Joe. Selfish, I know.

I’m excited to see Michigan. It promises to be one of the outstandingly beautiful places I have ever been. We’ll hit the vineyards and Sleeping Bear National Dunes. The weather will be beautiful. Truly, Michigan is a place I want to explore. I’ve heard so much about Michigan for my entire life. Lake sailing is supposedly fantastic and certainly one can spend months lost on the Canadian border on Georgian Bay. I wonder if it is deep enough for Pearl?

More than anything, however, I can’t wait to see the boy I’ve continually wanted to be around for over a year. I can’t wait to just take in the experience of being next to him, laughing, playing and feeling him around. My friends are scared that I’ll ditch my return ticket and never be heard from again.

As excited as I am, I’m casual, open and relieved of any pressure or expectations. We’ve been down that road and I don’t want to take the same path again. You see, the truth is, as much as I truly can’t wait to see this man, I remain unsure what this trip will be – and that is okay. At the very least (and a fine very least it is), it’ll be a fun time and a continuation of a closeness, which by its very nature has driven me to seek it again and indulge in something so beautiful. The key is not to let either of our heads get to any place we can’t handle – in a place our lives can’t back up – as strong as we both are. I want the nature of our whatever our lives are together or apart to be healthy. I want this above anything else. Our reality is that we live 800 miles away close to our families and friends. We’ve tried to change that before, but the nature of how we were doing it didn’t let it work. That failure killed me and I don’t want to rehash that feeling ever again. So, with those thoughts in mind, the very first desire I have in taking this trip is just to bring a little light into both our lives, have fun together and to engage pure visceral feelings that are truly exceptional and rare. It is, indeed, a sweet and tender visit.

But the beauty of all this is that the potential is there for more. There is potential here for us to bite the bullet, open up and start a conversation about a true courtship. There is a dream here, for me, of opening up a real dialogue. Instead of us building on already established dreams of the amazing things we could do together (oh boy, we have that covered) and what our lives would be like as a couple, we could talk about all types of reality: all the things we want in our own lives, our personal desires, our own personal struggles, our lives on-line, our obstacles, communication, sex, morals, what the nature of things between us has to be, support, a timeline, etc…. Nothing concrete, just general life stuff to mull over and try to negotiate. I mean, after all, I don’t meet guys like this too often and - if there is that once in forever chance that this person could be your soul mate - you don't want to screw it up. Do you? New York boys rarely think to themselves “what would my life be like in Northern Michigan?”

I’m not betting the farm on that second idea. If it happens, great. But, it doesn’t have to for me to be happy. This trip is really just being with Joe. I don’t want the pressure there for anything more than drinking wine, hanging with friends, crashing dunes, playing with puppies and more. He has a smile I could gaze at until I’m 80, but I'm thankful to have it for 4 days.

Vote to make your life better.

There are so many reasons to vote tomorrow. Beyond the economy, national debt, war policy, health care, stem cell reasearch and local and state issues, 8 states are considering constitutional amendments to ban gay marriage (Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia and Wisconsin).

I wouldn't say commies are cool, but....

Two very cool things of note are happening in Cuba.

First, Cuba is airing the communist island's first TV program featuring openly gay characters. This is a tolerant step in a country where gays have been chastised and beaten by cops. However, the twist is that the gay characters are apparently all HIV+

Second, Cultural authorities in Cuba are undertaking what Washington has not done: they are restoring the yacht that inspired the most famous novel of U.S. writer Ernest Hemingway. The boat is named Pilar.
